The Upper Arkansas Valley was first settled by Ute and Cherokee indian tribes. They sought this valley out because of it's mild winters and plentiful summers. In the late 1870's Salida's founding fathers settled in the lower end of the river valley and the town of "Salida" (translated EXIT in Spanish) was born. By 1880 Salida became a major rail hub for the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad. The townsite of Cleora, the present location of Four Seasons RV Resort, was earlier constructed as a train servicing facility for the railroad. Cleora's old water tank platform, rail yards and town cemetary, reminders of the past, can still be seen and visited to this day. These attractions are located within walking distance of Four Seasons Resort. Salida soon became filled with every kind of life that could be expected in a railroad boomtown which serviced countless mines and mills during Colorado's Gold Rush days. A roaring yet civilized town is what Salida became known for. A hint of Salida's past glory days can still be seen and felt when you visit the downtown area in Colorado's largest Historical District located just 5 minutes from Four Seasons RV Resort. One of Colorado's "Must Visit" places is what the Salida area is known as.
